Your own workshop: depends on customers; independent workshops that can service electric cars properly are still few in Malaysia, and that is an opportunity.

What to understand about that list
Every jump is a training jump, not a time jump.
And that is good news: you control the pace.
The scarcest skill in Malaysia right now is battery health assessment and module-level repairbecause it decides whether an ageing electric car can be repaired at a reasonable price.
Whoever masters it early will be in a very good position when Malaysia's first wave of electric cars reaches five to eight years old.

The honest part, stated again
Electric vehicles need less routine maintenance, so workshop revenue per car shrinks.
A technician who can only do routine servicing will feel this.
What balances it: get certified for high-voltage work, master diagnostics and batteries, add charger installation, and keep the ability to service petrol carsbecause the Malaysian market will have both for years.

Do not bet a whole career on the carbon market alone.

Exposed: initial diagnostics, fault code detection, and repair suggestions from symptoms. Modern vehicle systems already report many problems themselves.
What does not change:
The physical workopening, replacing, reassembling. The car is in a real place and someone has to touch it.
Faults the system does not reportworn connections, water damage, and bad previous repair work. A system reports what it was built to detect; a technician finds what it was not.
Battery assessment — the data gives a reading; deciding whether a pack is worth repairing is judgement involving cost, age and risk.

If you are taking the UEC instead of SPM
Everything above still applies to you — the subjects are the same disciplines, only a different exam paper. What changes is the route after it.
The UEC is not accepted for direct entry into a Malaysian public university degree. That is why independent school students overwhelmingly go to private universities in Malaysia, or abroad.
The UEC is treated as equivalent to STPM and A-Level, and it is recognised in the UK, the United States, Canada, Australia and Taiwan — which is why the overseas rate from independent schools is so high.
And the part that costs families real money — read this one properly:
PTPTN eligibility runs through SPM, and a UEC alone does not carry it. To keep the loan available you need a complete SPM, which means two things people get wrong:
Sejarah must be passed. Since SPM 2013 a pass in Sejarah (minimum E) is compulsory for the certificate itself — fail it and you do not have a complete SPM at all.
Bahasa Melayu is usually required at credit (grade C), not merely a pass.
The institution and programme must also be PTPTN-recognised — check that on the PTPTN gateway before you commit to a college.
The UEC route pushes you towards a private degree, and PTPTN is what pays for it. If you have not sat SPM, sit it — and do not treat Sejarah as the throwaway paper.
These conditions change. Verify the current rules with PTPTN before relying on any of this.

The training route
One: a Malaysian Skills Certificate in automotive at ILP, IKBN, GIATMARA, a vocational college or a JPK-accredited centre.
Two: specific EV high-voltage safety and service training. This is what separates you from an ordinary mechanic, and it cannot be learned from a video.
Three: Energy Commission electrical competency certification if you want to do charger installation work — and that is the second field growing quickly.
Manufacturer training — car brands provide model-specific training, and working at an authorised workshop gives you access to it.

Safety, and it is not a formality
EV systems run at voltages that can kill.
De-energisation procedure, correct personal protective equipment, and insulated tools are not suggestions.
Procedural discipline is part of the skill, and a serious workshop will not hire someone who does not show it.

The technical half of this category is regulated electrical work
This is the part most students miss, and it decides whether you can work legally.
Installing solar is electrical work. Servicing an electric vehicle is high-voltage electrical work.
In Malaysia, electrical installation work requires competency certification from the Energy Commission.
What that means in practice:
The "green" label is not what makes you employable. The certificate is.
A serious company cannot let someone without competency sign off work, and that is why certified technicians are paid more and are not short of work.
The right sequence for a TVET student:
A Malaysian Skills Certificate in the electrical trade, then Energy Commission competency certification, then specific solar or EV training on top of it.
Do not invert that order. A solar course without an electrical foundation and without competency produces someone who can talk about solar but cannot legally work on it.
And for the engineering route: designing larger systems requires a professional engineer registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia.
