The route
SPM → a Diploma in Early Childhood Education (2–3 years, check MQA accreditation) → kindergarten teacher → supervisor / principal, an international kindergarten, or your own centre.

Why this route is still worth it for some people
It is enterable with SPM and a diploma — no science stream, no degree needed to start.
It is meaningful in an immediate, visible way. You watch a child read their first word.
It has clear exits to better income, if you plan for them.

Three routes to better pay
1. An international or premium kindergarten. Strong English is the key, and they pay several times an ordinary centre.
2. Principal or supervisor. Requires a degree, not just a diploma. Plan for that early.
3. Opening your own kindergarten. This is where the real income in this field is. It needs registration, capital and some years of experience — but it is realistic, and many do it.

The Malaysian language advantage
Kindergartens here operate in Malay, English and Chinese. A teacher who can teach in two or three is worth more, and Chinese and international kindergartens pay better.

The UEC is not accepted for direct entry into a Malaysian public university degree. That is why independent school students overwhelmingly go to private universities in Malaysia, or abroad.
The UEC is treated as equivalent to STPM and A-Level, and it is recognised in the UK, the United States, Canada, Australia and Taiwan — which is why the overseas rate from independent schools is so high.
And the part that costs families real money — read this one properly:
PTPTN eligibility runs through SPM, and a UEC alone does not carry it. To keep the loan available you need a complete SPM, which means two things people get wrong:
Sejarah must be passed. Since SPM 2013 a pass in Sejarah (minimum E) is compulsory for the certificate itself — fail it and you do not have a complete SPM at all.
Bahasa Melayu is usually required at credit (grade C), not merely a pass.
The institution and programme must also be PTPTN-recognised — check that on the PTPTN gateway before you commit to a college.
The UEC route pushes you towards a private degree, and PTPTN is what pays for it. If you have not sat SPM, sit it — and do not treat Sejarah as the throwaway paper.
These conditions change. Verify the current rules with PTPTN before relying on any of this.

Universities

ECE diplomas at polytechnics, community colleges, IPG, private colleges; ECE degrees (UPSI, UM…) for the higher track.

Polytechnic/community: very cheap; private RM15,000–RM30,000.

Kindergartens are regulated — even though teachers are not individually licensed

The answer depends entirely on whether you plan to stay where you start.
If you do not plan: do not. A kindergarten teacher at an ordinary centre starts at RM1,800–3,000 and can stay there for years. That will not change because you work hard — it is the structure of the field.
If you do plan: yes, and the route is clear.
