Does air-conditioning technician have a future?
Yes, and the reasons are stronger than for most careers on this site — but where you work in this field decides whether you are well paid or not.
Why demand is solid:
Malaysia is on the equator. Air-conditioning runs all year, so it breaks all year. Demand is not seasonal.
It cannot be postponed. An office or mall without air-conditioning cannot operate.
It cannot be done from another country. Someone has to be on that roof.
It is growing — more buildings, data centres, and hotter weather.
But this is the part that decides your pay:
Home unit work is easy to enter, so it competes on price and stays at RM2,300–3,800.
Chiller and commercial work requires deeper knowledge, and it pays RM4,000–8,000 — because when a mall's chiller fails the losses run to thousands of ringgit an hour and they pay for speed.
Practical advice: do not stop at wall units. Learn chiller systems, add an electrical qualification, and chase commercial maintenance contracts. That is the difference between a career and a job.
