There are several reasons for deforestation. The primary cause is the need for agricultural land to grow crops and raise livestock. Logging for timber and paper production also contributes significantly. Rapid urbanisation and industrial development require vast areas of land, leading to the destruction of forests.

We need to stop deforestation urgently for many reasons. Forests are the lungs of the Earth, absorbing carbon dioxide and producing oxygen. Destroying them accelerates climate change and global warming. Deforestation also leads to soil erosion, flooding and the extinction of countless plant and animal species.

In conclusion, deforestation poses a grave threat to our environment and future generations. It is our responsibility to protect our forests through sustainable practices and conservation efforts.

REVIEW OF A FAMOSA, MELAKA

During the recent school holidays, I visited A Famosa, one of Malaysia's oldest surviving European architectural remains, located in the heart of Melaka city.

A Famosa, also known as Porta de Santiago, is popular among visitors because it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Portuguese in 1511. It stands as a powerful reminder of Melaka's rich colonial history and has become an iconic symbol of the state.

What I enjoyed most was exploring the surrounding historical area. Walking through the ancient gateway, I could almost feel the echoes of history. The Stadthuys and Christ Church nearby added to the immersive experience. The night market along Jonker Street was also a highlight.

I would strongly recommend A Famosa to my friends because it offers a unique blend of history, culture and entertainment. The guided tours provide fascinating insights into Malaysia's colonial past. Moreover, it is easily accessible and affordable to visit.

Overall, A Famosa is a must-visit destination for anyone who appreciates history and wants to understand the diverse heritage that makes Malaysia truly special.

I regret not being able to be a filial son. For years, I had taken my father's sacrifices for granted, never once saying "thank you" for everything he had done for our family.

My father was a humble fisherman who woke up at four o'clock every morning to sail out to sea. Despite his meagre income, he ensured that my siblings and I never lacked anything. He would skip meals so we could eat, and wore the same worn-out shoes for years.

I was ashamed of his profession. When friends asked about my father, I would mumble something about him being "in business." One day, my teacher showed us a documentary about hardworking parents. Watching the fishermen brave stormy seas, I saw my father's face in every frame. Tears rolled down my cheeks.

That evening, I resolved to change. I woke up early the next morning and accompanied my father to the sea. His weathered face lit up with surprise and joy. I helped him mend nets, sort fish and carry supplies. It was the hardest work I had ever done.

From that day on, I became my father's proudest helper. I studied harder, helped at home and never missed an opportunity to tell him how much I appreciated him. I learned that true filial piety is shown through actions, not just words.
